Educator of the Year

Thursday, September 27th, 2012

It’s my pleasure to announce that Ms. Kimarie Lynn, our Fifth Grade teacher, will be our Palos Verdes Peninsula Rotary Educator of the Year! Ms. Lynn has been teaching here at Peninsula Heritage for over 15 years and is well known for the unique and outstanding Fifth Grade year that she offers our students.Kimarie Lynn Photo SMALL for Blog 09 27 2012
It’s interesting to note how Kimarie was chosen here at PHS. On the first day of our teacher in-service in August of this year, a ballot was given to every single employee of the school, asking them to name a classroom teacher that they felt was worthy of this great honor. It was very rewarding for me to see that every teacher received votes. However, Ms. Lynn deservedly received the majority.
Of all the outstanding educators here at PHS, Ms. Lynn personifies our school’s tagline, “Celebrating Childhood Through Academics and the Arts.” Almost every assignment that she gives has a hands-on artistic twist that allows all the children to be part of the world of the arts as well as academics. The amazing Fifth Grade play is her piece de resistance; it creates a wonderful memory that she gives each child for the rest of their lives. Bravo, Ms. Lynn!

Back-to-School Night

Thursday, September 20th, 2012

Somehow I felt that last Thursday’s Back-to-School Night was the best we ever had – the weather was beautiful, the stars were shining, the classrooms sparkled, and there were smiles on everyone’s faces.Back-to-School Night
A special tribute goes to Robin Mearns and Zita Macdonald for an Asian fusion dinner that delighted everyone. This was such lovely dining that the staff was able to enjoy it for two days following.
The New Family Orientation was held in the library, again with smiling faces and pertinent questions that made the evening worthwhile. Our new families are a lovely addition to our parent population, and the children, naturally, are the same!
We are looking forward to having our first Character Qualities Assembly this Friday, September 21st beginning at 10:00 am, featuring the most important quality of “Respect.” The Board of Trustees will also join us for a faculty-staff/board breakfast beginning at 7:30 am. Before the assembly, the Board of Trustees will be touring the campus and observing all the math programs in action. It is rare to have a school where all the students enjoy math at the same time – ours does!
We are happy to be enjoying the season of the fall with all of you!

Welcome!

Welcome back to each of you! Our school year began with a bang of excitement, with everyone here happy to see your lovely children.First Day Kindergarten 2012 They make our day. We saw no tears, just happy faces and children asking me why summer vacation was so long! That should be comforting to you parents! Be sure to mark your calendars for next week, Thursday, September 13. Our New Family Orientation will begin at 5:00 pm in the library and we can’t wait to welcome our new parents. Dinner at 6:00 pm for both our new and returning parents will be served by our gracious parent/Board of Trustee members, Zita Macdonald and Robin Mearns, who will certainly entice your appetites with their lovely creations. Dinner will be followed by our program in the Amphitheater, and then by the individual teacher presentations in the classrooms.
Please don’t miss this important evening, as your child’s teacher will give you a study guide for the entire year. As you know, this evening is for adults only. We look forward to greeting each of you!
Warmly, Patricia
