All-School Musical

Friday, June 6th, 2014

Parents, grandparents, and friends of the school filled our Amphitheater last Friday evening to enjoy “Broadway’s Best.” Our own Miss Deb Wilcox shares her insights about the performing arts:
“As students enter Peninsula Heritage School, they are introduced to the performing arts. We teach the skills of musical theater, so they are competent in speaking with a microphone, using dialogue, singing, and dancing.”
“The arts are an integral part of the culture of our school. In the performing arts, the children gain amazing confidence as they practice and celebrate their own unique style of artistic expression.”
Music teacher Charles Miller adds, “Our students sing without any vocal track in the background. They are strong, heartfelt singers!”
Mr. Miller also directed the school choir at this event, and the sixth graders gathered to play their ukuleles taught this year by Mr. Miller. For the visual arts, under the direction of Danielle Standart, Peninsula Heritage School students created their own scrapbook collage that included theater posters, tickets, a “Playbill,” and iconic images of New York
“These experiences,” concludes Deb Wilcox, “have great carryover, as our students learn to connect and apply the skills they learn in the visual and performing arts to all areas of our academic curriculum.”
